The route is glorious…. no road work at all. From Draycot Foliat, down the Sustrans cycle/multipurpose track in the Marlborough direction and then takes a right turn along a quiet hard surfaced track, before heading back left for a long canter along the edge of woodland, eventually ending up at the bottom of Smeathe’s Ridge. Those of you who have done the Ridgeway ride will know that this is a glorious bit of bridleway - over 2 miles up a gently inclining grass track; the second half next to racehorse gallops.
Next through Barbury Castle country park, directly through the middle of this iron age hill fort, and then the ride returns along the Old Ridgeway and nice bridleway tracks crossing the Wiltshire countryside back to the venue – to enjoy your mince pie (and a rosette too of course!).
