This partnership competed up to Advanced level and was placed in several ERs. Margaret subsequently took a few years out, then started again with “Blue”. After getting to Advanced level and starting to compete in race rides, Blue was taken ill in 2005 and nearly died, but recovered sufficiently to do a PR at Cirencester, before then injuring his suspensory ligament on his hind fetlock. Blue is now semi-retired (until he annoys Margaret sufficiently for her to start riding him again). Margaret is now developing a new relationship with Doricina Sea Shanty - or Doris for short. Doris likes to live life in the fast lane, recently recording a speed of 44kph on training gallops. Margaret is hopeful of having something very special - time will tell. | | Chris Wensley & Zarzuela |
| | Chris Wensley Chris has just started out again in endurance after the sad loss of her advanced thoroughbred mare, Lady at the age of 19. She stables her 5 yr old arab filly, Zarzuela, at Westcott, between Wantage and Uffington. | | Barbara Vardag & Sahir photo by Eric G Jones |
| | Barbara Vardag A grandmother with a full-time job and 3 horses, I have been distance riding for 20 years beginning with my daughter's 14 hands Welsh pony and then moving on to an arab when he reached 4 and then another arab, still having the other two; we are both Advanced Level. I would love to be competitive but just want to enjoy myself so much that competition could get in the way, but I always enter competitive rides and by sheer luck once got the Best Arab on the Day at Berkshire Downs. I enjoy myself vetwriting almost as much as riding, and it is a great way to know others in the sport and to learn a great deal about distance riding. After a personal slump in interest I have returned to distance riding bent on making the most of the next few years. | |
